The Leading Spas
of Canada Conference and Expo was wrapping up. I said my goodbyes,
left the Hyatt and walked a block to the Fairmont where I asked the concierge
for the location of the spa. My last stop on this Vancouver trip was absolute
spa at hotel vancouver. I found the spa on the lower level and checked
in at the reception desk.

Since I was a little early for my appointment, the receptionist
asked if I would like to use the hotel's leisure centre's pool and sauna.
While there really wasn't enough time for the pool, the sauna sounded
appealing. The receptionist led me up to the elevators to the pool level
and showed me the locker room and sauna. I spent about 10 minutes there
and returned to the spa's waiting area. The decor in the spa is decidedly
masculine - brown walls, brown tiles, black leather furniture. It is a
showcase for the spa's YSpa collection for men.

 At
the appointed time, my therapist came to collect me. Mavis escorted
me to the VIP room where I was about to have a Binge Chocolate Body
Wrap. The large room held a large jet tub with changing colored lights,
a large shower and a large, comfortable treatment table. Mavis started
with a light, full body exfoliation, then spread a layer of brown
"mud" all over. The room filled with a delicious, chocolaty
aroma. She wrapped me loosely in plastic. While the wrap did it's
thing, Mavis gave me a great scalp massage and mini facial. When the
wrap was done, I was instructed to shower off. When I climbed back
onto the treatment table, the sheets had been changed. For the final
step, Mavis massaged lotion into my skin - chocolate scented, of course!

The absolute spa at hotel vancouver is the newest of four absolute spas
in Vancouver. Other locations include: absolute spa at the century and
two at the Vancouver International Airport - absolute spa at YVR and absolute
spa at the fairmont. I visited absolute
spa at the century in 2001 but I am certain much has changed since
then.
