Description: 26 miles from Puerto Vallarta edged in pristine white-sand beaches, natural islands and the turquoise Pacific. The name "Apuane" comes from the Huichol language, and describes a stream of water often used in healing and spiritual awakening rituals.

Treatments & Programs: Punta Mita (Spanish for "resting place") offers a full range of massages (Swedish, deep tissue/sports, shiatsu, reflexology, specialty, couples), body treatments (papaya salt scrub, fruit scrub, chamomile scrub, volcanic mud wrap, seaweed herbal mask), skin care treatments, manicure, pedicure, salon services. Try the Punta Mita massage, which uses indigenous sage oil and tequila, an exfoliating chamomile body scrub, a seaweed mask or the Temazcal ritual.

Romantic Treatments & Programs: The ultimate spa experience for two, the Apuane Suite indulges with a sun-filled steam room, hot tub, sauna, shower and its own private outdoor terrace. As of June 2006, summer nights are heating up with the help of a new, romantic menu of nighttime spa experiences for couples. Combining unique and relaxing treatments with picturesque settings and gourmet dining, these "after dark" couples indulgences make the most of Mexico's warm, tropical evenings, presenting a perfect way celebrate love beneath the stars. "The Resort is particularly stunning at night," said Paul Telford, spa manager. "This new nighttime menu gives couples a chance to experience the Resort from this vantage point by allowing them to absorb the Resort's natural beauty and stellar amenities and services under a romantic canopy of stars and moonlight." Tamai Summer Nights - The exquisite new Tamai Pool and private poolside cabanas create an exclusive and luxurious setting for dinner and a relaxing couple's Watsu massage under a moonlit sky. Performed in a heated pool, the 50-minute Watsu massage guides guests through a series of flowing, yoga-like movements and stretches to deeply soothe, especially acute and chronic pain. The womb-like, comforting effect of the warm water encourages deep relaxation that can be very releasing on physical, emotional and spiritual levels. Following the treatment, couples retreat to a private poolside cabana for a butler-served candlelit dinner. The gourmet menu features Kumai Oysters presented in three styles: curried, with bisque and Rockefeller, Chilled Tomato Gazpacho with Avocado Timbale, Seared Catch of the Day with Baja Baby Vegetables and Lemon Jasmine Rice and Lemon-Vanilla Tart with Café Ice Cream. After dinner, couples are invited to cuddle on the day bed in the private cabana or take a refreshing dip in the private plunge pool. The Tamai Summer Nights experience is four hours. Evening Under The Stars - Guests looking for a more casual, romantic experience will enjoy the Evening Under The Stars, which includes a Thai Herbal Therapy massage and oceanside picnic. With the sounds of lapping waves and rustling palms as a backdrop, the evening begins with an 80-minute couple's herbal Thai massage in the Resort's oceanfront massage palapa. This unique treatment eases tension with traditional Thai massage that has been used since the 14th century to heal soldiers with muscle aches. A warm poulice helps the skin absorb the herbal ingredients, which bring a deep relaxation to the muscles and help revitalize the spirit. Completing this special evening is an intimate picnic overlooking the beautiful Pacific Ocean. With a fantastic view of the surf, couples can gaze at the stars from their picnic blanket while dining on a selection of healthy finger foods including fresh fruits and gourmet sandwiches. Evening Under The Stars is 3.5 hours. Like Water for Chocolate - The Apuane Spa is the luxurious setting for this heavenly evening of rich chocolate experiences and soothing water treatments. Guests are escorted to the Spa's decadent couple's suite for a soak in the private Jacuzzi or a few minutes in the suite's steam and sauna. In the privacy of the suite, couples are then treated to a delicious 120-minute treatment that includes a Chocolate Scrub, Body Wrap and Facial followed by a Hot Chocolate Stone Massage. The body wrap uses pure Mexican cocoa grains to gently exfoliate, smooth and moisturize the skin, while the massage uses warm chocolate oil to encourage total relaxation. The evening concludes on the private terrace where couples are served fine champagne and a selection of fresh fruits together with a gourmet chocolate fondue. Like Water for Chocolate is 3.5 hours.

Spa Facilities: The spa features eight treatment rooms, a couple's suite, oceanfront outdoor massage hut with palapa roof, expansive fitness center, beauty salon and a Temazcal hut.
