I had some time before the ISPA Media Event in Manhattan and decided to experience InkSpa at Ink48, a Kimpton Hotel that opened on July 1.
Set in a former printing house, Ink48 is located on 48th Street and 11th Avenue. It's an easy walk from the Javits Center and the Manhattan Cruise Ship Terminal on the Hudson River is just around the corner. It's the first upscale hotel in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.
I entered the 222-room, 17-story boutique hotel and immediately felt very comfortable. The spaces are on a human scale and inviting.

I took the elevator to the second floor where InkSpa is located. As I entered the spa, my eyes were immediately drawn across the room to the lovely rooftop Zen garden.

I checked in at the reception desk and completed a form. My esthetician, Kristie, reviewed the information with me.

We waited for a few minutes. When a woman who had just
received
a massage emerged from the hallway, I understood why. She had been in the changing room. Only one client at a time can use it. If it's occupied, someone waiting to have a service or someone who is finished with a service needs to wait. There were only two of us, so it wasn't a problem, but I can see how this could turn into a real log jam for the spa on a busy day - a typical issue that a new spa has to resolve.

Kristie escorted me to the changing room. I put my things in a locker and donned a robe and slippers.

Kristie was waiting for me and escorted me across the hallway into a lovely treatment room that overlooked the Zen garden. She started my Lasting Impression Facial by removing my makeup and analyzing my skin. She explained that the spa used organic and eco-friendly products from Kerstin Florian for all their facials.
While a
gentle glycolic peel was working, Kristie massaged my hands. She said the peel would help to lift away dead surface cells and reveal a more uniform complexion. She then gave me an "acu-lift" facial massage - really one of the best face massages I've had. She said its purpose was to promote healing and restore balance. It certainly felt wonderful! As usual, I drifted off into the "zone." I lost track of all the steps of the facial. I remember her mentioning neroli and ampoule. My face felt great when it was all over, and she gave me the rest of the ampoule to use at home between my toner and moisturizer.

Because of the intimate size of InkSpa, it makes a great place to spend a spa day with friends. It can accommodate up to 12 guests and offers catering.

• Appointments and Reservations
InkSpa strongly recommends that you schedule spa appointments prior to your arrival at InkSpa. Reservations are subject to availability and must be guaranteed with a credit card.
• Special Events
Ask InkSpa about reserving the spa for your event — bridal shower, birthday or Girls' Night Out.
• Off Site Services
InkSpa can come to your spa parties and weddings, office wellness programs, employee appreciation events, trade shows and meetings, anywhere in New York City.
• Cancellation
Treatment times are reserved especially for you. InkSpa kindly requests that cancellations or changes to appointments be made at least 24 hours in advance. A full service charge will apply to all no shows and untimely cancellations.
• Arrival
InkSpa suggests that you arrive 10 minutes before your appointment time to fill out your personal care guide where you can explain your special health considerations or specific needs.
• Late Arrival
As a courtesy to clients booked after you, late arrivals will only receive the remaining available appointment time and will be charged the full service fee.
• Do you need help choosing your treatment?
An InkSpa spa associate will help you plan the perfect spa experience based on your specific needs or plans.

• What should you wear?
Luxurious bathrobes and sandals are provided for your comfort. You may leave your personal belongings in a locker. For your treatment, disrobe to the level of your comfort. Undergarments are not necessary, but you may wear them during your treatment if you prefer. InkSpa's licensed therapists are trained to drape a sheet or towel over your body in a discrete manner, assuring your privacy at all times.
• Should you shave before a treatment?
Shaving is not recommended prior to any treatment but if you wish to shave, InkSpa recommends doing so two hours before any facial or body exfoliation treatments.
• Is there an age requirement to use the spa?
All spa guests must be 16 or older to schedule a treatment.
• Cellular Phones
In consideration of other guests, InkSpa asks that you turn off your cell phone and/or pager before entering the spa.
• Payment and Service Charges
InkSpa accepts all major credit cards. Hotel guests may also charge the service to their room accounts.
• Are Gift Certificates available?
Spa Gift Certificates may be purchased at InkSpa Reception or by phone and may not be redeemed for cash.
• Valuables
InkSpa is not responsible for damage to or loss of personal belongings. InkSpa recommends you not bring valuables to the spa. |
