How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience
you are having at this moment." ~
Eckhart Tolle ~ A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose I've
been joining over 500,000 others on Oprah.com for the last 5 Monday nights to
watch the discussion of A
New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose with Oprah Winfrey and author,
Eckhart Tolle. In week 2, I realized that the spa experience, for me, has been
a path to awakening my consciousness. My first spa experience over a dozen years
ago, a massage, was literally a life-changing event for me. In addition to opening
a new career path, it taught me how to be in the present moment and become more
aware of my body. My therapist instructed me to breathe deeply, slowly and purposefully.
She encouraged me to quiet my mind and engage no thoughts from my busy brain.
Here I learned to be still, to be quiet, to let go, to pay attention to the sensation
of the massage - the skin, the muscles, the energy, to just be. Each of the hundreds
of massage and sensory experiences and yoga and meditation sessions I've had at
spas since then has helped to build on that first experience with my consciousness.
A New Earth made me realize this state can and should be my "normal"
state, not just a once-in-a-while break. There are many concepts in this book
that I know at my core are true but never brought them forth to truly examine.
I appreciate the way that Tolle explains, ties them together and validates them.
I have more to learn, and I am enjoying the journey. There are still 5 more chapters
and 5 more classes to go. If you missed the first 5 and want to catch up, you
can download them at Oprah.com and watch them on your computer or IPod. ~Julie

Review - AquaMedica Salon and Day Spa | |
|
| |
A
few weeks ago I visited AquaMedica
Salon and Day Spa in Long Branch. Even though I grew up in New Jersey, a relatively
small state, I had never been to Long Branch before. It's located on the ocean
about an hour from NYC. I walked up and down the boardwalk, and it was apparent
that the area had undergone a recent revitalization. One of the most notable new
structures was Pier Village, which features oceanfront residences, over 30 boutiques
and restaurants, a large gym and the 5,000 square-foot, 11-treatment room Aquamedica
Spa. I had three great treatments there - a facial, body scrub and Thai Herbal
Ball Massage.

This is the eighth month I am featuring the Spa Photography of artist Linda
Troeller. Linda is an award-winning photographer who has been featured in the
New York Times, Marie Claire Magazine, Healing Retreats and Lifestyles, GQ Magazine,
Forbes Magazine and a number of publications for spa professionals. She is the
creator of Spa
Journeys and Healing
Waters. Troeller's style captures the fluidity of water and the luminosity
of physical shapes in spa settings. I had the pleasure of spending time with Linda
at Toskana Therme
in Bad Sulza, Germany where many of her photographs adorn the walls. A
new giclee
print, signed by the artist, will be featured each month. ~Julie
