DSA & IMSA joins forces with
the University of California Irvine Extension at start Certificate
Program in Spa and Hospitality Management
Union City, NJ, June 25, 2004 The Day Spa Association
and the International medical Spa Association have joined forces with
UC Irvine Extension, the continuing education division of University
of California, Irvine to launch a new Certificate Program in Spa and
Hospitality Management this fall.
This unique program highlights the business aspects
of making a spa profitable and will provide participants with the
knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage day-to-day spa
operations. The program will also focus on strategic business and
marketing strategies for future positioning. Developed in close collaboration
with The Day Spa Association and The International Medical Spa Association,
and in response to industry needs for more comprehensive training
in spa management in an increasingly competitive industry, the program
will provide an academic curriculum combining business, management
and operations with industry specific courses.
The 150-hour certificate program begins with an Introduction
to Spa Management and Operations in October and November 2004 with
instructors Janice Gronvold, Principal, Spectrec a DSA member and
Peter Anderson, Principal, Anderson and Associates. Program guest
presenters will include industry specialists addressing business development,
management, operations, marketing, design, retailing, customer relationship
management, legal, and regulatory issues. Registration will be available
for individual classes or the entire certificate program.
A kick-off event, New Trends, Treatments, and Training:
Adding Value to Your Bottom Line, is scheduled for July 25 & 26
at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa in Dana Point, California.
The event features informal networking with the speakers on the 25th,
a keynote presentation by Dr. Jay W. Calvert, M.D., Assistant Professor
of Clinical Surgery, Aesthetic & Plastic Surgery Institute, UC
Irvine, and a panel discussion with John Buckingham, CEO, Solana MedSpas,
a Member of the Board of Directors of the IMSA and a DSA members;
Anne Emich, Spa Director, St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa;
and Kelly Costa, Spa Director, SK Sanctuary a DSA member, on the 26th.
