Spa Associations in the News Record Attendace at 2005 New York Spa & Resort and Medical Spa Expo- Latest trends and industry advancements highlight continuing growth of spa and medical spa business NEW YORK June 14, 2005 The Spa & Resort and Medical Spa Expo and Conference - the fastest-growing series of events in the spa and medical spa fields - broke another attendance record at its 2005 New York show. More than 4,500 industry professionals jammed the aisles, exhibit booths and educational session rooms on May 22-23 at the Jacob Javits Center for the shows 4th year.
A change in the established roles of the spa and medical industry was evident as well. There was an emphasis on how the industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation in job descriptions for the both the spa owner and medical doctor. No longer just for pampering, spas are providing more medical and result-oriented types of treatments, and the doctors office is now a place not only to get cured and a prescription, but a bit of indulgent attention as well.
On the show floor companies included, Universal Companies, Avancé, B. Kamins, Actifirm, Peter Thomas Roth / June Jacobs Spa Collection, Amber Products, and Bodyworkmall.
This show is great because I can see everything without being overwhelmed, and its large enough to provide a great representation of the spa and medical spa industries, said Jocelyn Nu, who will soon be opening a new spa in New York City.
Dee Deluca-Mattos, Vice President, Avancé, one of the leading exhibitors at the show, said, The Spa and Resort and Medical Spa Expo is a new and exciting venue to share our knowledge with a clientele that is serious about their business. The spa and medical spa owners were smart and showed a tremendous commitment to growing their businesses.
Spas in the near future will be expanding by offering more medical services for their clientele. New cutting-edge technology, you might see at the physical therapists office will soon be at the spa. For example, the Meilus Muscular Robotics Therapy uses a robotic arm to align and relax sore muscles and flush out toxins, helping any active athlete or stressed out office worker.
Skin treatments are no longer just about having smooth, pretty skin. A visit to the spa now means a comprehensive anti-aging solution using injectables to remove wrinkles and lasers that assist with skin irritations from sunburns.
A visit to the doctors office is changing as well. Not only will a patient receive medical treatment for their particular ailment, but a little bit of pampering as a bonus, to help with the healing process and speed up recuperation. After a lengthy hair removal, surgical, or facial procedure, facials, creams, and massages will be available to help patients cope with these extensive medical treatments.
The great attendance and energy at this recent meeting show that it is the leading educational and networking forum in the spa industry. The amazingly fast growth of the medical spa component illustrates why it is the most rapidly expanding segment in the spa world, said Dr. Bruce E. Katz, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the Medical Spa Society and Director at the Juva Skin and Laser Center in New York City.
The Expo and Conference presented the latest products where industry professionals gathered to see demonstrations, receive treatments, see a behind-the-scenes spa tour, and learn about the latest trends at workshops at the Spa University.
Eileen Baird, Vice President of Reed Exhibitions and Show Director, said, We were extremely pleased with this New York show. The attendees were provided with the most up-to-date information available from leading experts, to help their businesses, and the industry, keep up with consumer demands or risk falling behind. Our exhibitors feel this is the must attend event and were more than satisfied with all the activity on the show floor.
The show provided an excellent vehicle for combining technology and services available in the industry. From an exhibitors point, the show gave us many serious and qualified potentials, said Barry Vogel, President of Alyria Skin Optimizing System.
Many products were on display that could be used for spa and medical treatments in the comfort of your own home. There were DNA tests revealing age damage and how to repair from within, a Go Smile capsule for instant white teeth on the go, and several kinds of tanning formulas for the appearance of year round, healthy, beautiful skin.
This was a very well organized show. The lectures were great, said a representative from the Tessitura Medical Spa. I think its really great that the show is relatively small as well. I felt like the exhibitors had time to give us plenty of attention.
The next Spa & Resort and Medical Spa Expo & Conference will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, September 17-18, 2005.
