Monterey Resort & Spa on Del Monte Golf Course is pleased to announce the
appointment of Joe Herman as new Director of Spa for the resorts $6.5 million
luxury spa, scheduled for completion in April 2009. Marking the final part of
the propertys $60 million transformation, the resorts new state-of-the-art
12,000 square-foot, full-service spa will be a unique respite on the Peninsula,
featuring innovative techniques, treatments and services inspired by the Monterey
environs using both established and ground-breaking product lines. Boasting an
exceptional professional background in the hospitality industry, most recently
as Spa Director at Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon at Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort
& Spa, Herman will be instrumental in the conceptualization of Hyatt Regency
Monterey Resorts spa focus and development of treatments and services.
Joes extensive operational background and proven
affinity for intuitive, personalized service will be a tremendous asset to the
new spa at Hyatt Regency Monterey, remarks General Manager Mark Bastis.
Our new spa will provide a serene sanctuary for both local residents and
visitors to the area, combining state-of-the-art amenities and services that genuinely
capture the essence of Monterey.
Born
in England and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Herman studied sound engineering
at Columbia College in Chicago before transitioning to the hospitality industry
with a position at Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys. In his five years at
the resort, Herman flourished in the sociable environment and recognized his affinity
for warm and anticipatory service. In the years that followed, Herman rose steadily
within the operations department at Hyatt properties including Hyatt Regency Hilton
Head and Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch, while also joining
the efforts for the opening of Hyatt Regency Lake Vegas Resort. In October 2000,
Herman joined the opening team for the renowned Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort &
Spa in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico. Herman thrived as Executive Housekeeper at
the property and was honored for his achievements with the resorts first
Manager of the Year award. In November 2003, Herman seamlessly transitioned to
Spa Director of the resorts 16,000 square-foot Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon.
Herman excelled in his new post, drawing on his background in hotel operations
to create an exceptional guest experience while developing and implementing indigenous
spa treatments and therapies that reflected the desert location and history.
As Spa Director at Hyatt Regency Monterey Resort, Herman will
draw on his experience at Tamaya Mist Spa & Salon to successfully create a
strong sense of place at the resorts new luxury spa and salon, a much anticipated
gem of the propertys multi-million dollar transformation. His plans include
the introduction of a spa menu including seasonal face and body treatments, combining
natural ingredients and techniques indigenous to the Monterey Peninsula, such
as kelp and thallasotherapy (seawater therapy treatments), with well-established
facial products. The tranquil spa will also offer private mens and womens
locker rooms with steam room and sauna, a full service salon, and ten treatment
rooms - six treatment rooms specially-designed for either wet- or dry-treatments,
as well as four spa suites.
