Hotel
Galvez to Pamper Guests with New Spa
March 10,
2008 - The Hotel Galvez in Galveston is unveiling a new $6 million spa, salon
and fitness center on March 15.
The spa will offer massages
and facials in seven treatment rooms, and will sell Phytomer and Yon-Ka products
from France. The facility will also have a relaxation room and a spa meditation
garden with a rock garden, water wall and smoothie bar.
The
salon consists of six stations for hair services, four pedicure chairs and a three-station
manicure bar.
The fitness center is equipped with Precor treadmills,
elliptical cross trainers and cycles. Each machine has a 12-inch flat screen TV
and docking station for MP3 and iPod music players.
Christine
Hopkins, a hotel spokeswoman, said the upscale hotel is a popular venue for weddings.
Therefore, the 9,700-square-foot facility will allow future wedding parties to
obtain spa and salon services on site instead having to go elsewhere.
The
spa, salon and fitness center were created in the basement of the historic hotel,
which was built in 1911. The basement was home to a barber shop and drugstore
many years ago, Hopkins said, but most recently has been used for storage.
The
AAA four-diamond rated Hotel Galvez, with its 226 guest rooms and seven suites,
is part of Wyndham Hotels and Resorts.
