The ISPA 2003 Spa-Goer Study - Key
Results
The key results of the ISPA 2003 Spa-Goer Study prepared
by NFO Plog Research were presented by Jeff Kohl, ISPA President, at
the ISPA Media Event on July 24, 2003. Topics explored were men and
teens as spa-goers, how often people are going to spas, treatments and
spending. One of the most important announcements of the evening was
that ISPA is partnering with the American Hotel & Lodging Institute
to develop an education and certification program for the spa industry.
ISPA believes that certifications from this program will become the
landmark of quality spas of the future. The complete Spa-Goer Study,
as well as more details about the education and certification program
will be announced at the ISPA Annual Conference and Expo October 13-16,
2003 in Dallas Texas.
The methodology used in the analysis of the ISPA 2003
Spa-Goer Study is based on a total sample of 1,201 respondents to an
online survey conducted between June 14th and 19th, 2003. respondents
were required to be U.S. residents and at least 16 years of age. They
also were screened to ensure that they had visited a spa in the past
12 months. To ensure the sample for the study was nationally representative,
the sample was balanced on the following four demographic characteristics:
age, income, gender and race. Those demographic characteristics are
based upon the percentages reflected in the U.S. census data. The Key
Results of the Spa Industry follow. Click on the topic for detailed
