Relâche Spa at the Gaylord National Harbor
in National Harbor, Maryland
Julie Register visited this hotel spa in November 2010
Couples' Suite overlooking the Potomac River at Relâche Spa at the Gaylord National Harbor
I took some time while I was attending the 2010 ISPA Conference and Expo at the Gaylord National Harbor to experience Relâche Spa. The spa and salon areas are separated by a large hallway that bridges the Gaylord's hotel and conference center.
Entrance to Relâche Spa
I was immediately struck by the crisp, clean black and white décor as I entered Relâche Spa. The reception desk is to the left, the retail boutique to the right and entrance to the spa straight ahead.

I checked in and was escorted to the spacious women's changing area where the lockers and vanities are located.

I had time to enjoy a steam and shower before my treatment. In the steam room, I chatted with a spa director also attending the conference, and the time zipped by.

The Women's Showers at Relâche Spa
After my shower, I relaxed in the lounge with a cup of tea for a few minutes before Caren, my therapist, came to collect me.

Caren escorted me to one of the spa's 12 treatment rooms. I was having the Relâche Signature Massage. Caren asked if there were any areas I wanted her to concentrate on. I told her my usual - neck and shoulders. I settled onto the treatment table, and Caren began the massage with my back. When she was finished with this area, she covered it with a large hot towel and left it there while she worked on my legs. It felt wonderful! I was surprised it didn't cool off before she was finished, but it didn't. When I turned over, she applied hot towels on my feet after working on my legs. This, too, was a wonderful touch. It was a very relaxing massage, and the 50 minutes flew by. I felt great afterwards.

After my treatment, Caren escorted me to the Co-ed Relaxation Lounge. This lovely space overlooks the Potomac River. You can watch boat sail by. You can even see the Washington Monument in the distance. I usually keep a quiet mind during massages. This time, even though my body was relaxed, my mind kept working. It wasn't "busy," but two great ideas just popped into my head. I had a chance to think them over in while sipping tea under a soft blanket in this lounge.
